I'm Nick 😋
I'm a 2nd year comp sci student & cybersec intern at IAG 💻
Hobbies: speedcubing, bouldering, lockpicking + more!
Running for Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President
Currently in CTF Subcom
I want to share my knowledge of cybersecurity, encourage more people to get involved with the society, strengthen friendships, and run fun events!
Education is super important to me. Cybersecurity can seem complex and intimidating to newcomers, which is something I'd love to dispel.
I've already done stuff to help, like making a SQL injection teaching tool that's now being used by the NSW Department of Education! I'd love to do more like this in SecSoc, and help out at workshops and conferences.
One of the best things about SecSoc is the fantastic community!
As an exec, I'd prioritise events that foster this sense of community, like the 6841 movie night, hacker hangouts, and even new events like a pubcrawl or ball!
A key part of being an exec is helping around the society with everything - big or small. I like to think I'm the kind of person people are able to trust and would be comfortable going to for help.
I've already begun this on the roadtrip, helping to care for drunk people (you know who you are hahah). I hope to be able to help out in more ways next year, and to get to know everyone better!
Throughout the past year, I've been part of SecSoc's CTF subcom! As part of this, I've helped with idea formation and implementation of various cybersecurity challenges for competitions like the rookie code rumble (stay tuned for more in term 3!)
I'd love to help organise similar competitions next year, targeting all demographics - from complete beginners, to seasoned hackers!
I was in the IT subcommittee for CoopSoc last year, followed by IT Director this year! This has not only given me an exposure to fullstack web dev, but also experience leading a team of people - running meetings, setting the vision for the IT subcom, and project management skills.
This will enable me to effectively lead a team of directors as a SecSoc exec, and work collaboratively alongside the other execs 🥳
I'm currently working 9-5 as a cybersecurity intern at IAG - the largest general insurer in Australia. This has given me the experience needed to guide the society’s direction, allowing me to identify industry-relevant areas to prioritise.
Working full-time while juggling a uni course (and social life!) has also improved my organisational skills, which will come in handy as an exec.
It'd be amazing if you voted for me!
Feel free to say hi if you see me on campus :)
(thanks for the epic template Morgan!)
